CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Des Moines Police Department released body camera footage from the February incident on Maury Street that showed officers detaining suspect David Leroy Kintz Jr.—who pulled a screwdriver and lunged, leading both officers to fire and kill him—and both officers remain on administrative assignment after being cleared of wrongdoing by legal authorities. - ➤ The West Des Moines Community School District announced Shane Christensen will become the new Valley High School principal on July 1—he brings 19 years of leadership from Indian Hills Junior High and his appointment awaits board approval on April 14. KCCI

- ➤ On April 2, about a dozen people rallied outside the Iowa Capitol to protest a Senate-approved bill that limits lawsuits against farm chemical makers. West Des Moines resident Jenny Turner said the legislation shields companies like Bayer (maker of Roundup) from accountability while Iowa faces rising cancer rates. Radio Iowa
- ➤ Des Moines Area Regional Transit is facing a $7 million budget shortfall and has proposed changes to close the gap—officials are asking the public to review the proposals and provide input. WHO13
- ➤ Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill into law that bans the use of electronic devices while driving — the law takes effect on July 1 and Iowa State Patrol will enforce it with warnings until January 1 when officers begin issuing citations with a $100 fine. WHO13
