  • CBS News correspondent Steve Hartman will receive the Robert D. and Billie Ray Pillar of Character Award on April 17 at The Ray Center’s All-Star Evening in West Des Moines.   • Central Iowa Water Works reminded residents that with heavy rain forecast this week, they should turn off sprinklers to conserve drinking water & ease the strain on the water system. Using rain instead of treated water can also help lower your water bill.  KCCI
  • The city of Stuart is joining the Greater Des Moines Partnership affiliate network to access resources including small business programming+leadership development+marketing and communications support.   • Parents urged lawmakers for pediatric cancer research funding after a House subcommittee approved a bill to provide an annual state appropriation of $3 million at the Capitol yesterday — legislators will vote on the measure next week to support improved treatments.  Radio Iowa
  • The FDA has redefined 'no artificial colors' on food labels so that only FD&C dyes & petroleum-based dyes are banned, letting manufacturers use additives like titanium dioxide; consumer advocacy groups urge West Des Moines residents to read ingredient lists carefully as several states tighten dye restrictions.  KCCI
