  • A Facebook post on April 5 claimed that Caitlin Clark would invest $3.3 million to buy the Salisbury House and Gardens — a historic museum built in the 1920s — to create a living facility for homeless youth, but the museum’s official account said the claim is not true.  WHO13

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Asian grocery stores and local restaurants have felt the strain from the 125% tariff on Chinese goods that was in place as of Thursday, April 10th. Sun Philavanh, owner of New Oriental Food Store, said her stock will last only two to three weeks—customers are buying extra now—since prices on authentic goods will soon rise.  WHO13
  • A local auto glass business in Des Moines has seen costs rise after tariffs on Chinese imports increased from 104% to 125%—owner Fernando Terrazas now turns to salvaged glass from local junkyards to keep prices low.  KCCI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city announced that beginning Sunday, April 13 at 4 p.m. the southbound lanes of Jordan Creek Parkway from University Ave to I-80 will close for repairs until 6 a.m., and later the northbound lanes will also close overnight for similar work; drivers will follow a detour via University Avenue—60th Street—Vista Drive.  Des Moines Register
