- ➤ A nonprofit that provides proper burials for unclaimed veterans is hosting an annual fundraiser on May 10 at The Shop DSM Event Center on Cherry Street to help fund a ceremony planned for early October. Tickets cost $70 and the night will include a cocktail hour, a catered dinner from Jethro's BBQ, live entertainment by Mike Moody and the Outlaws, and a silent auction—last year the organization buried 20 veterans and five spouses. - ➤ Hy-Vee will end food preparation operations at its Ankeny and Chariton facilities this spring with the last day on June 24, as production shifts to local stores to boost product freshness and customer service. The decision will affect 461 employees—while the company organizes hiring events, not all impacted staff may secure new roles. KCCI

- ➤ A study from a private research firm warned that if Congress enacts deep Medicaid cuts, Iowa could lose 33,000 jobs and $865M in economic activity as Iowa Health Link, which covers 673,000 people, faces lower federal matching rates and stricter work rules. - ➤ Board of Regents president Sherry Bates discussed the proposed tuition increase today and said the board would balance the cost to families with the universities' need for resources. She appointed a two-person study group to research a fixed tuition guarantee program—reporting its findings by the November meeting—and a bill is moving to the governor that sets an April 30 deadline for tuition decisions. - ➤ Lawmakers approved a bill to strengthen Iowa’s anti-human trafficking law after the House passed it a month ago and the Senate voted 48-0 yesterday.
