- ➤ Zellaphant Books opened a used bookstore on 100th Street in Urbandale to support the Animal Rescue League — 10 percent of each month’s sales will be donated to the nonprofit as a tribute to Zella, a dog adopted three years ago. Owners Josh Walton and his wife Katie started the store after raising funds through pop-up events and plan to continue their work with every sale. KCCI

- ➤ FuseDSM will join the Des Moines Downtown Chamber of Commerce and Skywalk Advertising for a Skywalk Tour on May 28 at the Coda Lounge in the Renaissance Des Moines Savery Hotel — meeting at 3:00 p.m. and starting the tour at 3:30 p.m. — and will finish back at the lounge to socialize. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Des Moines police served a search warrant on Wednesday and arrested 18-year-old Mohamed Abukar after four people, including one with a gun, broke into a Oak Park home and stole $60,000—an incident linked to a teen posting pictures of the cash online. Radio Iowa
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ TSA spokesperson Jessica Mayle said the first day of the Real ID requirement in Iowa was smooth at Des Moines Airport, with most passengers carrying acceptable ID—travelers without updated licenses were advised to allow extra time at security. She added that those without Real ID can use other approved forms like a passport. Radio Iowa
- ➤ U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said she is open to federal action on a California law that limits how Iowa pork producers raise pigs. Iowa Congresswoman Ashley Hinson said the law, which requires cuts of pork to come from breeding pigs with 24 square feet of space, burdens local farmers. Radio Iowa
