- ➤ Des Moines International Airport will add its 34th nonstop route—direct flights to Gulf Shores, Alabama, operated by Allegiant starting Oct. 3. The flights will run on Fridays and Mondays to expand travel options from the airport. KCCI
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Clive family thanked Clive and West Des Moines police for returning their stolen car and providing a new car seat for Tiana Crandall’s Hyundai—she uses it to take her grandchildren to day care. KCCI
- ➤ Des Moines police are investigating more than six burglaries at laundromats over the past two months that appear linked to a suspect recognized by distinctive clothing who is accused of stealing cash and causing several thousand dollars in damage—officers said the inquiry is part of the Wanted Wednesdays initiative. KCCI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On May 19, West Des Moines City Council approved a development agreement with Forest Avenue Properties LLC to construct a two-story, 6,000-square-foot restaurant and tavern at 122 Fifth St. Construction will start this spring and the city will provide a $31,447 annual property tax rebate for 10 years (plus $150,000 from two city funds) if the new venue retains five full-time equivalent jobs to help cover costs from asbestos removal and demolition of the former building that housed The Longest Yard.
