Local businesses Van Meter Incorporated and Baker Electric helped pack a truck with nonperishable food, personal care items, and financial gifts—donations that were matched up to $3,000 show strong local support. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ About 20,000 people will attend the Red Bull Soapbox Race on Saturday in downtown Des Moines where 50 teams will race non-motorized carts on a custom course with turns, jumps and obstacles—pit lane will open at 10 a.m. and the race will begin at noon near the Iowa State Capitol—with local teams like the Eager Beavers Shreddin’ Ash expected to draw strong support.
