- ➤ A report from Iowa's community college presidents says community colleges could address workforce training gaps by offering four-year degrees, though hurdles such as extra funding for lab space & student services must be tackled. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Better spring weather may boost pheasant numbers after last year’s flooding, as Iowa DNR biologist Todd Bogenschutz reported four broods before Memorial Day, plus increased hatch success can make a big difference in bird survival. He said a slight rise from 50% to 60% chick survival could change the number of birds seen in the fall. Radio Iowa

- ➤ Iowa native Peggy Whitson, America's most experienced astronaut, will launch Sunday, June 8 at 9:11 a.m. on her fifth mission to the International Space Station, leading Ax-4 with a team from Hungary, India — and Poland to run science tests and technology experiments; her crew will make history as it marks the first space flight for Hungary, India and Poland while setting the stage for Axiom Station. - ➤ Iowa Workforce Development shut down its old system last week but will launch a new online service today — the update lets Iowans file for unemployment claims and search for jobs in one place. KCCI

- ➤ The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services said a baby girl was turned over in May under the Safe Haven Law. She was born May 23 and is now with a foster family until a permanent family is found, marking the third Safe Haven baby reported this year after two were reported in February. Radio Iowa
