- ➤ A company that formerly owned Adventureland settled a lawsuit on Sunday with the family of Michael Jaramillo—an 11-year-old who drowned on the Raging River ride in 2021—by agreeing to pay an undisclosed amount, ending the trial that was set to begin Monday. WHO13

- ➤ Local business owners and farmers in West Des Moines said tariffs have raised costs and canceled orders, affecting holiday sales and local trade. They urged congressional leaders to remove the tariffs — a move that could ease economic strain as the holiday season nears. KCCI

- ➤ Vietnamese officials visiting Iowa signed five non-binding deals yesterday at the Iowa Capitol to buy $800 million worth of soybeans, corn, dried distillers grain and pork — a move called historic by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig — and the state plans more trade visits to Vietnam this fall. - ➤ Central Iowa Water Works asked residents to reduce their water use by 25% due to nitrate levels in the rivers even though finished water still meets safety standards—local citizens are cutting sprinkler times, reducing watering days, and planting native greenery to conserve water further in response to the request. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley said in a conference call today that he will work to defend the wind energy industry by seeking a compromise on phasing out tax credits in the House spending bill — a move aimed at avoiding a $4.5 trillion tax increase. He recalled an earlier five-year phase-out that ended in 2021 and noted Iowa gets nearly 60% of its power from wind — he hopes the Senate passes the bill before the July 4 recess. Radio Iowa
- ➤ Julie Stauch announced her bid for governor after working on 24 campaigns at the local, state and federal levels—she said Iowans reject leaders who harm the state’s water, soil and schools and she plans to travel across the state four times over the next year. WHO13
- ➤ The Iowa Department of Transportation warned West Des Moines residents that texts claiming unpaid tolls or traffic violations are scams since Iowa does not have any toll roads or bridges. Officials advise anyone receiving such messages to report junk using their phone and delete the text. KCCI
