- ➤ Police say a West Des Moines man allegedly used Snapchat to ask a 13-year-old girl for nude photos + investigators searched his home last October, seized three phones and a laptop, and he was arrested Tuesday on a charge of enticing a minor. KCCI
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Vietnam has agreed to buy $800 million of agricultural products from midwestern states including Iowa after state leaders hosted more than 50 Vietnamese delegates at the Capitol earlier this week. The five deals cover soybeans, corn, dried distillers, grain + pork. KCCI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 4th, the Iowa DNR, Blank Park Zoo and Iowa State University released 56 Blanding’s turtle hatchlings into central Iowa—each now carries a transmitter to help researchers track its movement and learn more about the threatened species. KCCI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State Rep. Eddie Andrews announced his run for governor on June 4th on the steps of the Iowa State Capitol building with a crowd of supporters. He said he would focus on expanding accessible mental health care, youth transition programs, and education—while opposing eminent domain for carbon pipelines and reducing the influence of money in state politics. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ USDA’s FSIS issued a public health alert for Organic Rancher ground beef sold at Whole Foods in West Des Moines after tests found E. coli and confirmed the product is no longer on store shelves. The beef was made on May 22nd and May 23rd with expiration dates of June 19th and June 20th—customers who have it should not eat it. Des Moines Register

- ➤ On May 31, the Red Bull Soapbox Race at the Capitol Complex in Des Moines drew 35,000 spectators as 50 teams raced a 1,000-foot course near 30 mph — the catfish-shaped cart Rolling Fish Heads won by finishing in under 26 seconds — marking the event’s second run in the city. KCCI
