EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today's KIDS Count report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation ranked Iowa ninth in child well-being based on 2022–23 data. The report shows that while health insurance coverage for children is unchanged, more 4th graders are not reading at grade level and 8th graders are struggling with math, poverty has increased by 1%, and obesity among children aged 10 to 17 fell by 1%—fueling concern over potential federal cuts to Medicaid. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Des Moines Christian School — currently in the West Central Activities Conference — has accepted an invitation to join the Little Hawkeye Conference as its ninth member for athletics beginning in the 2026-27 school year. School officials said the decision is based on a clear vision — a plan for schools of different sizes to compete together — that will offer student-athletes more opportunities to grow and play. WHO13
