  • Brad Edwards — a well-known local meteorologist — will join WHO 13 as a contributor on July 1st. He brings over 28 years of broadcast experience from Local 5 and other stations, promising to share his expertise on Iowa’s weather.  WHO13

  • Greg Edwards, CEO of Catch Des Moines, shared his past successes and future plans for making Des Moines a destination during an interview with Jeriann Ritter on June 12—he will retire soon.  WHO13

CRIME NEWS

  • Des Moines man Tomie Lee Misner Jr., 66, was found dead at 1210 N 4th Avenue E in Newton shortly after 7:00 p.m. Monday—local and federal officers executed a search warrant and an autopsy by the State Medical Examiner is pending.  WHO13

CULTURE NEWS

  • Comedian Matt Rife enjoyed a backstage cuddle break with ARL puppies at Wells Fargo Arena last Sunday during his Stay Golden tour stop in Des Moines — VIP ticket holders got extra cuddle time and one pup even dozed off in his arms — creating a memorable moment for all present.  KCCI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Iowa Board of Regents approved tuition increases at public universities, setting a 3% rise at the University of Iowa and Iowa State and a 2.7% rise at UNI, which will raise costs for students next school year. The board also approved salary boosts for university leaders — UI President Barbara Wilson will see an extra $65,000 and other executives will receive new compensation effective July 1.  KCCI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials imposed a mandatory lawn watering ban on 600,000 Central Iowa Water Works customers yesterday due to high nitrate levels in the river — the measure aims to meet EPA standards. Local landscaping companies reported the ban may reduce their work by nearly half and delay water testing until it lifts.  KCCI
  • Iowa Gov. Reynolds signed a bill Wednesday that will reform pharmacy benefit managers by requiring fair reimbursement to independent and rural pharmacies—this measure also prevents penalties for patients selecting non-preferred pharmacies.  WHO13
