- ➤ An Ogden woman living in Des Moines turned 105 earlier this week and shares her daily routine of eating toast with peanut butter and cheese—topped with peanut butter and jam—while enjoying her coffee. She is retired and plans to read more and cheer on the Iowa State Cyclones as she looks forward to more adventures. KCCI
- ➤ The Iowa State Fair offers hands-on farm activities for kids where they can care for animals at Little Hands on the Farm and learn about newborn farm animals at the Animal Learning Center (I Milked A Cow costs $3), and the fair runs through August 17. A new playground at Fun Forest adds to the family-friendly attractions. WHO13

- ➤ Des Moines Area Community College launched the Max Opportunity Scholarship at the Iowa State Fair to help motivated, low-income Iowans cover tuition, books — and tools needed for classes. DMACC President Rob Denson said students could apply by contacting college advisors or visiting the school website. KCCI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Five years ago, a severe derecho struck Iowa causing widespread damage to trees, buildings, and farmland as well as the loss of lives of a firefighter and a utility worker—residents are still working with the Iowa National Guard and utility providers to improve emergency planning for future storms. Key repairs continue while communities remember the storm's lasting impact. KCCI

- ➤ Twelve-year-old Parker Schulz from Viking Wrestling Club is selling bottled water for $1 at the Iowa State Fair to raise money for his wrestling tournaments. He is working every day except Wednesday at a stand in front of a home on East Grand near the entrance to the grand concourse. KCCI
