ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ One driver and one DMPD officer were taken to local hospitals after a collision on the east side at the intersection of Delaware Avenue and East Euclid Avenue at 7:15 p.m.—the officer was on a domestic call as authorities investigated the crash. WHO13
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Several suburban Des Moines school districts have named new principals and administrators for the 2025-26 school year — districts such as West Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, Urbandale, and Waukee have selected school leaders to guide returning students. Des Moines Register
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Drivers experienced southbound lane closures on I-35/80 between Douglas and West Mix Master that began Wednesday night at 10 p.m.—the lanes reopened at 4 a.m. on Thursday. Iowa DOT will implement additional closures on Sunday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 26 with ramp closures starting August 27 through mid-December to add lanes. WHO13
- ➤ Nurses at four Des Moines hospitals signed cards to join the Teamsters Union—Colin Russell of Iowa Methodist said staffing, pay and patient care issues have led to high turnover at a rally held yesterday. Hospital managers said they will bargain with union representatives only after nurses vote in a secret ballot to form a union. Radio Iowa

- ➤ Dean Jill Kolesar from the University of Iowa’s College of Pharmacy visited two dozen pharmacies across Iowa last week to build relationships and learn how to support rural health care.
