EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The West Des Moines school board approved a $135 million bond issue on Aug. 25 to fund improvements in classrooms, facilities, and systems, and voters in West Des Moines and parts of Clive, Urbandale and Windsor Heights will decide on Nov. 4. District spokesperson Bryan Geelan said every school building will be updated if the bond passes and that the proposal would increase the tax levy from $12.22 to $13.74, meaning a homeowner with a $300,000 property will pay about $17 more per month. - ➤ The Iowa Department of Natural Resources collected two pallid sturgeon in the lower Des Moines River during spring sampling—this milestone is the first time this endangered fish has been seen and will guide future recovery efforts since the wild population is not self-sustaining. WHO13

- ➤ The Iowa Department of Transportation said maintenance on the westbound I-235 bridge will force an overnight ramp closure on I-235 starting at 10:00 p.m. today — a detour will guide drivers until the ramp reopens at 5:00 a.m. on Thursday. WHO13
- ➤ Des Moines police departments now allow visible tattoos with rules limiting designs on the face, neck, and hands—policy updates aim to attract more applicants and reflect changing social norms. Des Moines Register
- ➤ Polk County finalized over $10 million in federal funding Tuesday to support projects that create affordable housing units; $1.3 million will go to Beacon Village for 32 units, $1.28 million to Joppa for 24 tiny homes, and $300,000 to Highland Park Flats—county officials said this action completes the ERA2 fund distribution.
