On Sept 4, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile visited Valley Junction Farmers Market on Fifth Street outside Coffee Cats Cafe, letting local residents get an up-close look inside the historic vehicle (a unique local attraction).

Des Moines Children’s Museum will leave Valley West Mall for a new home at 1200 12th Street in West Des Moines in spring—this space will have 13,000 square feet on each level and more than seven acres of outdoor area, with a capital campaign already raising over $2.3 million to reach its $3.5 million goal. The nonprofit plans to expand its exhibits to offer a more engaging learning experience.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture will continue its program that sends state funds to six food banks so they can buy fresh food from local farmers—adding another $200,000—to help families facing food shortages.

Secretary Mike Naig said rising interest in local food shows that the effort will give more opportunities to farmers and food businesses.
