  • At the 5th Annual Hot Rods for Heroes Car Show in Des Moines, hundreds gathered as Blue Star Mothers of Iowa raised funds for troop care packages. Lisa Wilson said the group needs to raise over $110,000—mainly for shipping—to send 2,700 packages overseas in November.  WHO13

BUSINESS NEWS

  • New Horizon Cuisine, a sauce and flavor maker, is building a new 30,000 square foot facility in Ankeny — supported by tax credits from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The $14.5 million project will create 11 jobs — expanding the company’s operations in meat and vegetable extracts.  KCCI
  • Entrepreneur Field Days: One Mic, Many Voices: Elevating Iowa’s Next Generation of Talent will take place on October 17 at 12:00 PM—2:00 PM and features speakers Amner Martinez and Laura Rodriguez from Infinite Resources and Amplified DSM.   • Trees are experiencing a mast year as noted by the Iowa D-N-R — white and burr oaks, black walnut, and shagbark hickory are releasing extra acorns and walnuts — which is normal even though it may slow growth. Residents in central Iowa cities must clear mast debris from sidewalks to avoid liability.  KCCI
