  • Reggie’s Sleepout, an annual fundraiser, will take place in November at Mediacom Stadium in Des Moines, and YSS President and CEO Andrew Allen explained the plans for the event in an interview posted yesterday.  WHO13

  • A beer hall called The Hall in West Des Moines closed days after the city council denied new owner Maria Mendoza a liquor license on Sept. 15. Mendoza planned a family-friendly restaurant with live music and drinks—leaving its future uncertain.  Des Moines Register
  • Toys R Us announced plans to open a new store at Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines as part of a comeback that will include seven locations nationwide and 20 seasonal shops for the holidays—this move revives the brand after all its stores closed years ago amid bankruptcy.  Des Moines Register

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cleveland rap group Bone Thugs-N-Harmony will perform at Val Air Ballroom on Halloween, Oct. 31 in West Des Moines with special guests such as B. Well and FlySpace—doors open at 6 p.m.; tickets go on sale online starting Sept. 26 with a local presale available on Sept. 23 using the code VALSCARE.  Des Moines Register
