EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The state board of educational examiners revoked Des Moines superintendent Ian Roberts' license because he no longer possesses legal presence in the United States following his ICE arrest on Friday+ a letter was sent to his home address by the board. The Des Moines School Board had placed Roberts on paid leave and he is held in Woodbury County jail in Sioux City+ NAACP leaders have urged federal and state officials to ensure due process in his case. - ➤ Des Moines School Board will hold a special session on Monday at 4:45 p.m. at Central Campus to act after ICE detained Superintendent Dr. Ian Roberts last Friday and the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners revoked his license. The board had placed him on paid administrative leave and now will move him to unpaid administrative leave retroactive to the BOEE decision as required by law—ensuring clear action in response to new information. - ➤ Iowa DNR veterinarian Rachel Ruden has been studying a viral fungal pathogen that affects Iowa rattlesnakes—she takes skin swabs to understand its impact on these fragmented snake populations.
