- ➤ Des Moines Parks and Recreation is hosting its annual Park-N-Play event this Saturday with games, music, free snow cones, and a giveaway of four tickets to Brenton Skating Plaza. The event will run at Cohen Park from 10—11:30 a.m. and at Beaverdale Park from 1:30—3 p.m. KCCI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Iowa Supreme Court heard oral arguments on Wednesday in a case where Ronald Pagliai challenges fees for dismissed charges — he argues that low-income defendants should not pay for court-appointed defense when cases are dropped. The decision could affect fee practices in future plea agreements. KCCI
- ➤ Gov. Kim Reynolds signed an order on Wednesday that requires state departments to use federal systems to check if job applicants can work legally; all agencies must use E-Verify to verify work status and SAVE to check citizenship — the order follows the arrest of a former Des Moines Public Schools superintendent. - ➤ Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird and 11 other attorneys general asked Meta to explain its policy on removing violent videos after victims of October 7th attacks sued the company for allowing footage of Hamas attacks.
