- ➤ St. Vincent de Paul, a nonprofit serving the Des Moines metro, now needs clothing donations for its thrift stores as backup supplies ran out due to a surge in shoppers — donors receive Vinny’s Bucks through Halloween. - ➤ Comedian Jerry Seinfeld will perform at the Des Moines Civic Center on March 7, 2026 — tickets for his stand-up show go on sale Friday, October 31 at 10:00 a.m. Seinfeld, known for his hit show about nothing, is bringing his tour to Des Moines as part of a national lineup. WHO13

- ➤ Ren Johnson, a third grader at Joshua Christian Academy, won the Des Moines Fire Department’s poster contest and received a ride to school in a fire truck—his artwork, made with his dad to show safe battery practices, will be on billboards across the city to promote fire safety. KCCI

- ➤ Trick-or-treaters tonight should prepare for cool weather in West Des Moines with temperatures starting in the mid-50s and falling into the lower-50s later—most areas will stay dry despite a slight chance of light showers. Similar cool conditions are expected later this week ahead of Halloween, so dress warm and check updated forecasts. KCCI
- ➤ George Thompson set a new state record on October 12 when he reeled in a 60-inch, 105-pound blue catfish from the Missouri River—he battled 35 minutes to land the catch before releasing it after certification by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. - ➤ Next week, Perlla Deluca, owner of Southeast Constructors, will travel to DC with 9,999 other small business owners to meet lawmakers and urge an end to the government shutdown that paused federal contracts. Deluca said the shutdown—now in its fourth week—has delayed meetings and payments and may force her to reduce staff, affecting local business operations. WHO13

- ➤ Today, hundreds of stores and police stations including the West Des Moines Police Department offer a safe, anonymous drop-off of prescription drugs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the 29th annual National Drug Take Back Day hosted by the DEA to help prevent drug misuse - ensuring medications are disposed of properly to reduce overdose risks. - ➤ The 100th pheasant season opens today in Iowa as DNR wildlife biologist Todd Bogenschutz reports that a mild winter helped nearly all hens survive last fall—raising counts statewide by 40 percent.
