- ➤ A liquidation event is underway offering online bids on old Iowa State Fair items until November 6 at 7 p.m.—the auction includes displays, banners, barn stall doors, and more. Winning bidders will pick up and pay for their items at the Cattle Barn from November 7 to 8. KCCI
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce surpassed 1,000 members this month, doubling its membership from 592 in 2020 and adding 187 new members in 2025. President and CEO Katherine Harrington said the milestone shows the hard work of the chamber team, board and volunteers — Mick Grossman of KW Commercial became the 1,000th member. KCCI
- ➤ The Children’s Place, a store for children’s clothes, plans to open by the end of the year at Outlets of Des Moines—its exact date is not set yet. WHO13
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Waukee Community School District reported total enrollment rose by 376 students since last year, though some schools saw lower numbers because of differences in grade levels. Superintendent Brad Buck said the jump in ESA funding use—from 270 to 1,450 students—is expected with the rule changes that let every Iowa family apply and over 45,000 applications were filed for the next school year. - ➤ The Iowa DOT uses the Alive at 25 program to help 16-year-old drivers in the Remedial Driver Improvement Program lift a 30-day suspension for traffic violations like speeding or distracted driving. Partnered with the Iowa-Illinois Safety Council, the four-hour interactive course—focused on group activities and behavioral changes—offers a one-time chance to regain a restricted license. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Iowa's flu vaccination rates are down nearly 20% from last season as doctors advise residents to get their shots now—flu cases are expected to rise in November. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the shot for everyone six months and older while Iowa Health and Human Services reported just under 16% vaccinated so far this season. KCCI
