EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, the West Des Moines school board will discuss closing Walnut Creek School at a 7 p.m. workshop meeting with a proposal to shut it down at the end of the academic year—this recommendation comes after a presentation that chronic absenteeism worsened and academic performance remained unchanged—and the plan would cut positions including the principal, secretary, and teachers. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Hundreds of runners took part in the 5th annual Turkey Trails 5k/10k at Gray’s Lake Park on Sunday morning, with nearly 450 registered participants taking part in a kids dash and longer distance race—finishers received a medal and a mini pie. Organized by Bodies Race Company from Kansas City, the event drew community members celebrating the Thanksgiving spirit. WHO13
- ➤ The fifth annual Eric Cooper Memorial Bowling Tournament at Game Day Lanes honored the Des Moines umpire whose legacy has lived on since his passing in 2019 — organizers confirmed the event sold out and supported UMPS CARE.
