- ➤ The Salvation Army explains that red kettle donations fund services such as rent, utility assistance, breakfast programs and food pantry support — it has raised an estimated $400,000 to $500,000 toward a $1.2 million goal and will continue accepting donations through the second week of January. - ➤ Staff Sgts. Edgar Torres-Tovar and Nate Howard, killed in Syria on Dec. 13, had their remains returned to Iowa at Des Moines International Airport at 1 p.m. on Dec. 17 after a dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base. KCCI
- ➤ A PSA campaign by the Gift Card Fraud Prevention Alliance will run from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31, urging locals to inspect gift card packaging for tampering and report scams. Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird joins 14 states in warning shoppers not to share gift card PINs. KCCI
